Something said by Obama.
Reply 1 : "Spending Reductions In The Tax Code"
The only spenders in the tax code are the taxpayers so a reduction in their spending would be a tax cut
Reply 2 : "Spending Reductions In The Tax Code"
....thought it meant the opposite, that a reduction in government "spending" on the tax code was actually an increase in government revenue, otherwise known as a tax increase.
Reply 3 : "Spending Reductions In The Tax Code"
and that's what it does mean in the end. The only spending in the tax code by government is tax expenditures like tax credits, deductions, exemptions, etc. so a cut in that spending is actually a tax increase.
Reply 4 : "Spending Reductions In The Tax Code"
"Spending increases in the tax code"? What would that mean? Tax cuts? More exemptions? Lower tax rates?
The thing is, spending is always part of the budgeting process, and collection is part of the taxing process. What's next? "Collection increases in the budget"?!
Was it a gaffe or deliberate double speak?

But The Washington Times says instead of labeling "tax increases" he called "spending reductions in the tax code."
Penultimate paragraph;
"The president also called for undoing the Bush tax cuts for upper-income taxpayers, and for canceling other tax cuts many of them receive such as the mortgage interest deduction - items that instead of labeling "tax increases" he called "spending reductions in the tax code."

I'm hearing two interpretations of it, and still not sure which is correct. What a crapload of double speak. I hope someone asks Obama to explain EXACTLY what he means by that phrase.
Reply 8 : "Spending Reductions In The Tax Code"
in the rest of the civilized world as "tax cuts"...lol.C1ay had it!!
IMHO,the only solution to the "Tax Code" mess is to eliminate the tax code itself by abolishing the IRS and instituting "The Fair Tax".

After learning the basics about "The Fair Tax",it's hard to comprehend why any reasonably intelligent person would not advocate it.(Probably why Obama hasn't;)
FWIW,I'm currently on "hold" for The Rush Limbaugh progam on 77WABC.(it's my day off and I've got nothing to do) :=).He's supposed to have Trump on as a guest and I'd like to ask Trump his views on The Fair Tax.I suppose I'll probably run out of patience before they get to me.:)

cuts in tax deductions, such as mortgage interest, some real estate taxes, limits on dependents, etc? At the same time he uttered those words, he was also talking about increases in tax rates for the "wealthy".
Didn't he promise in his campaign to make things clear and more apparent?
