Need to do factory reset/reboot on laptop but Cd-rom broke

I was doing factory reset with software when CD rom grinded and stopped. Now computer will not boot. I need to do reboot but cannot run software. If I get an external cdrom drive, will the computer run the cd to complete the factory reset?

Hi u can reboot with an external rom, the only thing is you need to know is what format of disc you are using ie dvd or cd rom, but it is real easy to take out the old drive and fit a new one you dont have to take the laptop apart and at most undo 3 screws and cheep as chips on ebay and just note the make reguards steve

drive but if you provided the manufacturer, model and model number of the laptop we might even be able to help you restore to factory config from the recovery partition if it has one.
