need to replace motherboard on dv7 pavilion

had this computer a little over a year. HP live chat has informed me after my checking that Ram was seated correctly that I need a new motherboard. I cannot get access to BIOS screen, no screen @ all.

model: dv7 1132nr (model FS136ua)
system board/ UMA architecture, supports AMD Turion 64bit dual-core processor.
Part # 486542-001

Question: is there a cheaper alternative motherboard I can use? Money is tight & I cannot afford the motherboard suggested.

all and any information greatly appreciated...

Laptop motherboards are 99.99% of the time only compatible with the exact model. And I've yet to encounter the 0.01% exception. For me that's 100%

If you need a PC look up FREECYCLE and the Free Area of Craigslist as the free ones show up weekly here.

Is it a black screen only? Did some research for you.

I had same problem, take out your ram 1 stick at a time and reboot. Mine lasted another 2 months till it finally went

I'm really disappointed with HP. Like others I will never buy another HP. 1 1/2 years old and motherboard burnt up! I used a cooling system too and never got my money out of it. RECALL, HP, GIVE US OUR MONEY BACK OR MAKE IT RIGHT SOMEHOW!

My 1285 quit charging the battery and now won't work with the power cord either. This system was 13 months when it happened and Best Buy said I need a new motherboard. What a piece of crap, one month out of warranty. So dissapointed in this computer.
